These actually towed a trailer pump and filled a role very similar to the AFS ATV. This 1943 issued truck would have originally been painted police green, and the blue beacons are a later addition. It still has its original gong and semaphore direction indicators, despite the addition of flashers. These whitewall tyres were a very popular way of identifying fire service vehicles well into the 1970s in France, but were not a very common feature elsewhere...
