ERF/G&T/Merryweather TL CNM 455T

January 1991 at CenterParcs, Elvedon, Suffolk. AFA sounding. This TL was from the Greene King brewery FS, but was part of the attendance. It previously served in Bedfordshire and Isle of Man. G&T put the old ladder on the new body.

Petros,

It went to the Isle of Wight - not the Isle of Man.

Well you live and learn, I'd never heard of a UK industrial brigade running an aerial appliance before. Does anyone know of any others in the UK in recent history, other than the petro chemical industry and airports?

Yes Joseph Rowntree at York had a 60ft Merryweather, Greene King had a succession of TLs over the years and there are a couple of others.
Not quite industrial but Heathrow have an ALP....Manchester Airport have an ex Hampshire TL and Dublin Airport have just bought Durham & Darlington's old ALP from Anglocco

I seem to recall the Hook Norton Brewery have an ex Oxfordshire Bedford TL (that's TL as in the Bedford model as well as turntable ladder!)

Maybe not quite UK USAF/RAF Lakenheath run a superb aerial

And to follow on, picture 18887 shows another former Greene King TL still in preservation today - and Barrie to be pedantic I would argue that the 3 airports you mention are 'industrial' if you take the dictionary definition of industry i.e 'the airline industry'

I suppose we should use the term 'non-local authority' fire service Rick.....that covers all bases and keeps everyone happy !!! lol

Barrie thats fine - its just a small point I know !

Nice diplomacy Barrie, is the Dublin ALP the Cheshire hire machine? Greene King had a Bedord TK turntable ladder at one time I think when I used to deliver there. Hook Norton used to have CFC601Y on site at one time. Shame I never had a digital camera years ago lol.

Yes Gary.....it was at Chester whilst ours was having some work carried out.....seemed to be in great condition so should be s good addition for the extensive Dublin Airport fleet.

USAF Lakenheath no longer have there aerial appliance unfortunately.
Stansted Airport has an ALP now a ex Northamptonshire Scania H105UBD.

Forgive my foggy mind, but weren't Wiltshire Fire Brigade supported by an industrial fire service up until the '80s that operated a TL? 'Bradford-on-Avon' and 'brewery' are words that spring to mind. And I'm sure they operated a TL. Can somebody PLEASE help my turmoiled head to fill in the many blanks?!

Avon Rubber had a big works there.
