Small Fire unit Merseyside Mercedes
One of Merseyside's two small fire units seen outside Whiston fire station 31st march 2009. These units are based at HQ and go out from 16.00 till 22.00 with a crew of three.They are used in area's were there is a problem with small fires.

Would Really Love to know what there like or Why Did Merseyside get rid of Them.....

Dave that comment made me smile a bit. Like all things fire service, trends come and go. Remember chimney vans?
These units have a place, Highlands and Islands use a lot in small locations where a pump would be overkill. Many European countries use similar in cities as a first strike, with the "cavalry" following up.
Its not a bad concept for a bin or skip fire, or a small RTA and similar, including funnily, chimneys.
Yes bean counters will see it as a way to trim costs, unions will always hate this as they see it, rightly or wrongly, as a cut.
However, it ensures fast response, and proportional response to some incidents.

The colour is so so wrong. I thought a recent ruling by parliament meant that all fire engines now had to be red. But then again it could be argued that is by no means a fire engine! As mentioned above it is a white elephant, so perhaps it should be painted white!!!

I Remember When We Introduced The IFEX 3000 Into the UK About 16 year's ago... Fire Fighter's went out to Break It So it was Classed As An Expensive Super Soaker!!!! And Not Fire Service Proof.. Another Project to Save Money and Manning Again...
