Photo of York Fire station

York fire station and appliances parked in the bays, from left to right, landrover 3 water rescue unit, York 5 alp, old York 14 on a 53 plate, replaced by a 56 plate, old landrover 3 now in service at Whitby and York 24 on a 54 plate, despite being the busiest appliance in the fleet, it's still in service whilst many other stations with less call outs seem to be getting newer machines .

This station used to be a church in its former life

This fine old station may only have a few years left if the Fire Authority gets its way. Plans are to move the second pump and the ALP to Huntington fire station on the outskirts of York which is a retained one pump station at the moment. Build another brand new station to the south east of the City. Then demolish this station and then build a new smaller station on this site. All in the name of "modernisation" We call it a waste of public money !

Yes you are right Paul, what will happen to attendance times etc ? i'm sure this building can be made good, but no doubt some numbnuts with a bean counter will think otherwise ....

Seen a photo of Tads new rp, looks a good piece of kit, i hope York get one soon the 54 plate must be knackered by now, yet Tad get a new one ?

Hi John, not seen Taddy's truck yet. Had a look at one at Harrogate a few months ago they dont look to bad.I have heard they have ordered four Volvo's for later this year, they may have JDC bodies on them and not Emergency One, but can't confirm that at the moment. They dont seem bothered about attendance times, the retained staff will go from Huntington and the second pump from York will replace it with the ALP. The new station to be built in the South east of the City (some where near the University) will be retained, so in my opinion the problem of recruiting and retention of retained at Huntington will be moved to the new station, as keeping retained in the job is a big problem at the moment. When and if a smaller station is built on the present Clifford Street site in the City Centre it will be a one pump and the rescue boats station.
