Is that thing still about?.I remember photographing this new design emergency
tender back in 1987 at the'Fire Exbo 87'held in Bristol that year.My pictures
don't clearly show the registration, but the registration for 1987 would have been D or E?(Aug 86/July 87)thats when this appliance was first demonstrated,
actually being in September of 1987.Chris, what was the orininal registration?.

So far as the registration number is concerned, it was built on the chassis of the old (1971) Dennis F108 ET.

Thanks Ian, now I fully understand where the original K in the registration
comes from.It totally confused me when I'd only seen it afew years ago.

As Ian correctly states, this is built on the chassis of Teesside's former Dennis F108 ET ADC999K. The machine was an experimental concept in Emergency Tenders and was designed jointly between Teesside Polytechnic and Cleveland Fire Brigade. I have a copy of it's promotional brochure. It's main feature was the sliding rear end section, designed to provide easy access to more equipment, however, it was prone to stress at the extending section.
The frontal styling (if style is the correct word to use)is hideous! Whoever was responsible for it was probably on something!
Presumably the DVLC must have thought that the modifications wern't severe enough to warrant a new registration (after all, it's only a rebody). The concept was applied to a new build (and equally unsuccessful) ET (H49KVN) which went to Hartlepool at Stranton. This didn't last very long before it was rebuilt into a rather more conventional (and rather boxy looking) CU/ET. Look out for my pictures of H49KVN in this form comming soon.

I took this picture at Teesside Airport Fire Rally in 1987. This vehicle was disposed of through Maltby Auctions near Yarm around 1991/2 presumably for scrap
I can't see anyone wanting to preserve this monstrosity!

Is the black surround at the front of the cab some kind of hinged frame? It looks like it could be hinged forward to gain easier access to the lightbar on top!

This frame was hinged so it could be used as a crane jib for rescue work notice the winch on the bumper
