Thanks for this picture Phil, really good, must bring back afew memories
for you when you were a lads with your little brother and dad.
I have a picture of this appliance and some others from Durham County
Fire Brigade when in service back in the 1970/80s, (my era).
I'm glad to see this one could still be around mate, lovely machine.

Just a point that might be worth mentioning to anyone who isn't aware of the fact; this machine (RHN 999L) was in fact new to Darlington County Borough, passing to Durham on the April 1974 mergers.

Tayside had only 2 ERF's in the brigade an 1968 F reg ERF/HCB-Angus WTL, the lower bumper was chevroned, the whole body and shutters painted red with just the rear unpainted. An 1970 G reg ERF/HCB simon SS85 HP with body unpainted. They were both in Angus Area fire brigade/later Tayside. The WTL Dundee/Broughty Ferry, the HP Dundee and Perth. My father has driven and operated both.

Ian:

Do you recall if this PE was one of the generation that included a 300 gallon tank? There is one in the Hall of Flame in Phoenix with a 500 GPM pump and 300 gallon tank, also carrying a Merryweather steel 50 foot escape.

As I used to live in Darlington and have since visited Phoenix a few times I have managed to set eyes on both. The ERF is however the only British representative in the Hall of Flame...

There is also a Merryweather, which however saw service in South America. I hope to be instrumental in getting them a Dennis F12 too - similar to PHN 999 which the ERF pictured above actually replaced!
