The only open appliance and therefore the wettest was this 1930 Dennis Low Load pump eascape.

I watched the owners drive away after the event...and YES they were wet!!

In 1930 almost every fire truck anywhere in the World was an open body style like this beautifully preserved example.

Ten years later some were still being built, but outside North America the majority were enclosed.

Open trucks remained quite popular in some areas of the United States until the 1960s and even in to the 1970s.
