Townsville Fire Brigade Dennis
Car 4115, Engine 8955. Exited the Dennis factory in Guildford, Surrey on 16 November 1916. Arrived in Townsville on 18 February 1917, aboard the SS Limerick and immediately went into service with the Townsville Fire Brigade. Retired from active service on 17 December 1956.
Fitted with White & Poppe engine, Bore 127mm x Stroke 180mm, 4 cylinders cast in pairs, Capacity 9,121cc.
Blue has spent his whole life around Townsville, Australia. After active service, was bought to work as a mobile pump on a mango plantation, but was never used. Found his way to James Cook University where he was used as transportation at the annual Commemoration celebration. Some main bearings failed in 1972 when the quaint lubrication system did not deliver lubricating oil. I bought him in 1973 as a trade-off to pay the bill for the engine rebuild. I restored him between 2001 and 2004 with the help of four great friends.

You simply have to see picture 7785 to appreciate the restoration that Frank carried out, to bring us this beautiful machine, in the above picture.
picture 7785 shows her as a rusted wreck, pushed out into the back-lot and left to moulder.
Then, picture 7784 shows her, in her heyday, with full crew aboard.
What a great job of work.

I remember that beast from JCUNQ in the sixties. Had a bit of a drag race with it in a 1946 Bedford truck along the Strand after the Commemoration parade in 1968. In hindsight, I realize now how potentially dangerous that was. Fortunately, you're only young and stupid once!
