Hundreds - if not thousands - of WWII ex US Army GMC 6X6 chassis were left behind in Europe and converted into fire trucks in the 1940s, for use by fire services in France, Luxembourg, Belgium and The Netherlands.
Converted by a myriad of small bodybuilders, these had a wide variety of bodywork ranging from a very basic tank and portable pump to a full custom body. Most - but not all - had a crew bench or cab, a 3000 liter tank and a portable 500 to 1000 LPM pump. Numerous examples can be seen on the "Historic Fire Engines Europe" site.
Closer to home, several ex military 6X6 brush units are in service on Eastern Long Island. These utilize the same AM General chassis as this example.
