Paul, very interesting photo, why?, because this is is just one of only 4 Ferrara 1000gpm/500 tank pumpers that the F.D.N.Y.purchased.The first in 2002 went to the Training Centre, 2 purchased in 2003 went to Engine Co 54 and Engine Co 258, and this one, which is a 2003 Ferrara Inferno 1000/500gpm High-Pressure pumper which when delivered in 2004(FPO4001)went to Engine Co 26 located in its own quarters at 220 West 37th Street in the Borough of Manhattan, New York.
Thank you very much for the details, very interesting indeed. When I took the photo there was nobody to speak too as all the crew were busy. I am visiting New York at the end of January 2008, so I hope to get some more pictures. Thanks again Sorry but there was no name on your comment.
Paul, to understand the F.D.N.Y.year and make of units look at front drivers side of cab, in small letters and numbers(FPO4001)are details. In the above picture for instance, the FP...stands for Ferrara Pump, if say it was a Seagrave it would have SP...stands for Seagrave Pump. The first two numbers shows it as a 2004 model. The last set of numbers shows it as(001)only being one of.If say the last three numbers were 054, it means in the year in question, this is number 54 from say a batch of 55.Actually, in 2002 the F.D.N.Y.purchased 42 Seagraves, and then again in 2003 they purchased 56 new Seagraves.Hope you enjoy your trip to the Big Apple, don't forget your long-johns, cloves and thermol socks...and of course a good camara.....Added by Pete Matten.
Pete. Many thanks for that information, Ive often wondered how to recognise a FDNY appliance but have never asked. Well now I know, I will be having a look for that set of numbers and figures when I visit. I will be up at E58 and L26 fire house in Harlem to see the guys. Thanks again.
Paul, for your interest, F.D.N.Y.Engine Co 58 recieved one of the 56 new Seagrave JB 1000/500 Pumpers delivered in 2003.Number...SP03025. The present Seagrave JT 100'Rearmount Ladder is Number...SL02019. Just out of interest, did you know that Engine 58 back in 1981 was one of the few departments that took delivery of a Mack CF 1000/500 yellow(slime green) pumper?.10 Macks, and one ALF pumper were done in this livery on a trial basis, it didn't last very long, but Engine 58 liked the apparatus so much that it was one of the last to be changed to the tradional red. Hi Pete, thanks again for the information its great to hear about the New York fire trucks. I think I have seen a photo of a truck in the yellow you mentioned. I first visited in October 2001 and stayed up at E58 fire house for a few days and had a few rides to incidents with them, and popped in to see them again in 2005 when i was in |New York.
