In 1938 an identical unit carrying a 50 foot escape ladder was supplied to Bournemouth. Quite an advanced design when a lot of brigades were still buying open bodied Braidwood pumpers and pump escape.

Just noticed the front suction intake. This was a very unusual installation on a British urban pump appliance - and still is! It is now almost universal on North American pumpers, which tend to favor a front inlet combined with a bumper loaded with flaked five inch (125mm) hose, although all have inlets on both sides amidships too, and many also have a rear inlet. A front 75mm inlet was also quite common on some German pumpers in the second half of the last century, but does not seem to have caught on anywhere else in Europe.
