These were the most common light fire pump of this era, used by almost every one of the many thousands of volunteer fire companies in West Germany. They did not have a water tank, but did accommodate a crew of up to nine firefighters. They all included an 800 LPM portable pump, so they could quickly get set into open water sources to address fires in outlying rural areas without hydrants. Some stations had a water tender. This was usually an 1800 litre tanker with a standard two seat truck cab and its own front mounted pump. Both these and the light pump depicted above were designed with a gross weight under 7.5 tons, so that any volunteer with a passenger car license could drive them, without requiring a truck driver’s license.
