Leyland TLM Merryweather TL

a slightly odd photo. I can only assume the man in the suit is a sales person for Merryweather selling extinguishers. There is a Merryweather advert board propped on the appliance. Anybody know any more?

Note the blue steel bonnet that is characteristic.
With reference to this type of TL some were not supplied to the NFS, but were supplied under an Air Raid Precautions contract - see picture 13571

I suspect this is one of this series of Leyland Merryweathers?

Looks a lot like the Leyland Merryweather TL at Middlesbrough in the sixties, which was delivered during WWII.

GNC800, perhaps? Was in Merryweather's safe? hands, prior to their demise.

Ed: GNC800 is here

The present-day Merryweather & Sons Ltd has recently (2023) changed ownership. We trust the name will continue. But even in recent decades I don't think it was possible to buy/rent a fire extinguisher with an explicitly Merryweather label. They did however have a nicely painted and sign-written van with their logo. As for the 1978 picture, the salesman in 1983 was Nick Cobb, and that does look like him. Has anyone looked on Facebook or Linkedin?

Would put forward the humble suggestion that this is the same vehicle as FEP picture 13701. To further speculate, was it a machine in Merryweather's ownership or custody; an old engine was often received in part-exchange for a new vehicle, and stored long-term. Tecalemit group (who already owned Foamite) bought Merryweather in 1966. Tecalemit sold Merryweather to Siebe Gorman Group in 1970. Merryweather moved to South Wales in 1980. S - G bought the remainder of Tecalemit in 1983. The moonlight flit from Wales to Plymouth was in 1984. By this time fire engines were still being made but fire extinguishers seem to have been the only profitable part of the business.
