German fire services make extensive changes use of trailers and in cities like Frankfurt most full time fire stations and many volunteer stations have one or more. The advantage of a trailer like this lighting unit is that they can be positioned at an incident and left there without tying up a rescue pump and crew. They also add capabilities which may not be needed very often and they are relatively inexpensive, and a precursor to the AB pod system, although many are still used because they fill a role which does not require anything the size of a pod!

Trailers are to be found which carry boats, foam and foam making gear, extra hoses, portable, floating or fixed pumps, BA, salvage equipment, hazmat items, electrical generators, ventilation fans, and just about anything else you can think of, including field kitchens used by volunteers at major incidents to feed hungry fire crew members….

The dry powder trailer is also a favorite for dealing with electrical fires. Powder used to be a standard installation on some water tenders, but has been deleted to provide additional locker space for more frequently needed other items.

Many fire services also operate special extinguishing media pods with foam, powder and CO2 on board.
