Saurer was founded in 1903 and built trucks and buses of very high quality up to 1982. This configuration is a Braidwood style which was very popular from the earliest motor fire engines until the mid 1930s in many countries. This heavy pumper has a two man hose cart for 75mm hose and four handy reels for 52mm attack hoses. Including the rather uncomfortable seating above the splendid varnished wooden lockers, it could accommodate eight or perhaps even ten crew members.

The red light with an "F" was a uniquely Swiss way of identifying fire trucks - long since replaced by the ubiquitous blue lights.
