Apart from the roller shutter over the hose reel compartment, this locker layout is identical to the first series of AFS “Green Goddess” emergency pumpers - which was adopted by several fire appliance body builders in the UK during the 1950s. Although the GG prototype had four doors, the entire production run of both early 2X4 and later 4X4 had only rear doors, a measure which was intended to simplify manufacturing and reduce cost. Similarly, quite a lot of contemporary county and city brigades bought two door appliances, which was a rather unusual feature of quite a lot of British fire appliances in the 50s and 60s - and a phenomenon only found in one other country, Finland.
