The Leyland is a WWII NFS issue on a Leyland bus chassis with a Merryweather ladder. These were rather unusual, and a very limited number were built - I believe only around eight or so. In 1960 Wolverhampton replaced it with another even more rare bird, also on a bus chassis. This was one of only two Leyland Firemaster Magirus TTLs - and as the other (Darlington's 999 MHN) did not have a pump, it was the only Firemaster TLP ever built. I don't know what happened to it. But mercifully, 999 MHN is still preserved in the capable hands of Dr. Barry, not too far from its old Borough Road home!

According to a post by Pete Matten the number of these NFS ladders on bus chassis actually numbered thirty, with others on normal control Leyland and Dennis.
