Leyland TL GLW422 at the Tyne Tees Rally 1983.
Here's another view of GLW, this time at the Gypsy Green Stadium in South Shields Tyne and Wear. From this side, you can easily see it's origins as a PSV Chassis.I havn't seen this for a few years now, some information would be welcome.

Hi Chris, i now own GLW 422 and it is undergoing restoration as it had stood for many years, nothing major just a good polish and service. I have posted a pic on here, Do you have any other photos?

Hi James, glad to hear of it's survival. There are three of my pictures of this machine on this site, I have a couple more of it waiting to be digitalised. I don't remember seeing it after 1985.

There is a some nice footage on the British Pathe site from the NFS days of GLW415 at the Docklands Fire Station. If you go to the site and search for A CLASROOM FILM - THE FIREMAN you should find it. Alo shows a couple of other appliances believe its the same station where Londons Burning was filmed.

Yes you are right Paul, I have just watched the mentioned film and it is indeed E34 Dockhead A.K.A B25/E44 Blackwall

Now preserved in Flint North Wales by firefighter James Jones who has built a shed round it in his back garden to keep weather out. There is a Hull AEC Regal TL in same shed! Photo just posted today.

Wolverhampton not only placed this ex NFS TLP on a Leyland bus chassis in service after denationalization, the brigade also replaced it with a Leyland Firemaster Magirus TLP in 1960 - which was also a bus chassis!
As there was only one Firemaster TLP ever built (The Darlington Firemaster TL had no pump), this was a unique example of brand loyalty on the part of the brigade.
I understand the reason that some NFS wartime Merryweather ladders were installed on bus chassis like GLW 442 was that bus production had been cut back and spare chassis were available from Leyland.
The Firemaster was a more intentional effort to repurpose an existing design, but even fewer of these were ever built...
