6900 NF Leyland Cocker PE Manchester

1970s Firemaster chassis was based on the Leyland Worldmaster bus chassis. This ex Manchester Fire Service vehicle has a Leyland 0.600 engine, bodywork by Cocker of Southport and was built in 1962.

Was at South Yorkshire Transport Museum, Rotherham, now Greater Manchester mus. Rochdale.

As I recall, these had a two door cab with the OIC's seat in the center, so the rest of the crew could get in and out of the single left side door more easily. The two Essex ESTPs had a similar arrangement, but also had a center aisle and rear doors.

Both Darlington's and Wolverampton's TLs had four door cabs, as did the Glasgow PEs.

Greater Manchester fire museum reports this as bodied by Spicer of Southport not Cocker. Maybe a sub contract job. It does look a bit sophisticated for Cocker who built very boxy bodies generally.
