This style of Magirus dates back to 1966, although of course this unit could be quite a lot newer. In any case, if it is still around, it is probably still at least forty years old, and may be closer to fifty!

When I lived in Leiden (Holland) in 1974-75, all the bays in the Leiden FD station contained Magirus trucks like this. I never stopped to chat, though, so I don't know just when they were acquired.

This is the former engine of the Middelburg fire dept. in the netherlands. It served the dept. from 1979 until 1995.

@Michael: The Leiden Magirus trucks were acquired in the early 70's. The last one left service in 1991.

Is that fire truck in charts?

The original specification according to German standards was a 1600 LPM pump and 2400 litre tank on an 11 ton 4x4 chassis with a six seat cab. In the Netherlands there were some variations in locally specified pump and water tank capacities, so this particular unit may have been slightly different. These and other contemporary Magirus fire trucks - including turntable ladders - were complete factory built units, with engines, chassis, cabs, bodywork, pumps and ladders all built by Magirus. This was a unique product offering as other fire trucks were always an assembly of different components, even in the case of famous firms like Dennis, who always outsourced engines.

Unfortunately the firm’s other commercial vehicle and bus sales were never enough to enable it to survive alone, and it was obliged to merge into Iveco.
