1997 Unimog U2000 Rescue Tender

This very impressive and well equipped Unimog was operated by the Buckingham Fire and Rescue Service.
The equipment includes a water spray system mounted under the front bumper for fighting grass fires.
The body builder is Emergency One and the photograph was taken at The Chiltern Steam Rally, High Wycombe, England in June 2004.

Cannot recall if this was the truck but I was doing some private fire cover for the Peterborough Truck-fest in 1998, where one of these were being displayed (had Buckingham Fire Service written on it). I recall us using it to a skip fire, we were in the middle of a demo in the main arena when we were called to the incident. Our own truck was parked elsewhere at the time. Quite a mission just to get into the cab, not sure how it handle on the main roads, big chunky wheels and a high centre of gravity, not a good mix for exceeding road speed limits. Looked a good piece of kit for off-road fires though.

These are brilliant off-road and widely used all over Europe for brush and forest firefighting. For example, Marseilles has 43 of them, plus a number of the new Unimog 6X6 6000 liter support tankers.
