Chris, another classic pic the lights of me appreciates. Tell me, what are the beacons on the bumper for, I think I can make out an air horn, electronic siren? and is that an electric (mechanical) siren as well, thanks, ,

The beacons on the front bumper are so that the truck can be seen and recognized as an emergency vehicle when nosing out of heavy traffic at intersections. These types of lights are sometimes also fitted to fire service vehicles in various other countries.

I think the Ford in the background is from the New York City Fire Patrol. The Patrol is now disbanded and operated along side the F.D.N.Y. It was funded by insurance companies. The last company(unit) operated in Manhattan area of the city.

Is it a Ford or a GMC? Looks like it recently hit a rather large bird, whatever it is - or is that an American La France eagle mascot on the front grille?

Yes it looks like a small siren with red enamel paint instead of chrome plating.

The Fire Patrol Salvage Truck in the background is a GMC see picture 35129
