What is the significance of the decoration on the side towards the rear of this truck? Looks like flower-power, but I think it is probably a diesel.

Rob, many former (German) fire trucks find a "new" life over here in Holland. Either used by artist for transport or rebuild as a camper.
This one once belonged to the Stadland Lg Rodenkirchen. In service in 1979 in Holland since 2008. Orginal numberplate was BRA-PM 64

It is a bit surprising that former fire trucks which are bought and placed into non-emergency use still have their original lettering and signage, even if the blue lights have been swapped for orange ones. Many countries have laws prohibiting this in the case of former police, fire service and EMS vehicles.

Hi Rob,
But this is a former German one in Holland :)
Only blue lights have to been cover up for older non emergency vehicles.
