Fire Engines Photos

The LP was Mercedes first full forward-control chassis, and this one looks as if it dates from the early 1960s. Only a small number were used for fire apparatus. Hamburg had quite a few, including at least two TLs, but most other German fire services still preferred the conventional cab design in those days.

Despite looking brand new in 1994, when this photo was taken, this truck must have been around 30 years old by then.

This is the only open cab LP fire truck I have ever heard of - presumably because of the balmy climate in that part of Africa.

This Marauder cab was built in 1959 and is still stationed in Windhoek.

This specific vehicle was withdrawn from active fire fighting services and converted into a mobile education unit.
I had the honor to clean and drive this vehicle during my time as a fire fighter in Windhoek, from 1994 till 2006.
