Yes the Leyland cub shown above was stationed in Louth.I saw it the day it arrived there from the Leyland works. But its ladder was a fifty foot Ajax and not the one shown in the photograph
This could be the engine known as Basil. The other engine known as Betsy FW9545 originally had a flat ladder and was later converted to take a wheeled escape. It can clearly be seen where the rear platform has been cut and altered. Betsy is kept in Louth fire station.
Does anyone know where this appliance is now? We are restoring a 50' Ajax ladder to display photos between the rungs. We would like any photos of past Louth (Lincolnshire) appliances.
Its at the 'Flower of May' caravan park near Scarborough I believe, they have a fairground museum.. it's in there along with a Morris Commercial appliance
Rick, Many thanks for the tip off. I have looked at their site and FW5540 is in one of the photos. It looks to have been re-painted at least. I have emailed them and hope to hear back from them.I also promote a few classic car shows and would like to invite your appliance to next years Saltfleet Gala on Sunday 13th August. It will not matter what condition it is in. I am hoping to have some other vintage appliances on show as well.Free entry for classics and a full day of events too.
The Morris is DF 3365 from 1926 that was part of the Michael Banfield collection and was sold by Bonhams for $27, 000. It's got a Gloucestershire registration number but I can't remember who had it from new. Anyone?
