Pembroke Dock - Mid and West Wales historic photo
June 2012 is our Golden Anniversary at our current location, but we've had a Fire Station in the Town for nearly 90 years, This photo was taken outside the Royal Dockyard Pembroke Dock in 1930, its of the First Motorised Fire Engine! All PD had to cover were Horse drawn steamers. Permission kindly given to post this up by Les Gardner.
I'm trying to trace the number plate and what may have happened to the vehicle.

Looks like the British answer to the Keystone cops!
The pump is indeed very similar to many Merryweathers supplied to the LCC at about the same date - but that enormous diameter suction hose suggests that this unit may have had an extra high volume pump. Some dockyard engines were fitted with such pumps, because of the high risk profile in the areas they covered. With all that water right there, using the suctions was an obvious SOP, instead of relying on hydrants.

It carries a Middlesex registration number as did all vehicles belonging to the War Department at that time. As the Dockyard closed in 1926 the photograph must have been taken before this date, and the appliance would probably then have been moved to another establishment or sold.
As far as I am aware Pembroke Town Council acquired their first motor appliance in 1932, unless you think they purchased this appliance when the Dockyard closed.
