Based on a superceeded Mercedes chassis, built in India under license with a fibreglass cab. These are now disappearing and being replaced by Mercedes, MAN, Volvo and Scania units.

tata entered into an agreement to license build trucks in india in 1945 , this agreement ended in the sixties by which time the chassis were developed by thier own engineers and although some cab pressings bore a passing resemblance to some mercedes products they were of tatas design , they had little to rival them bar leyland who had split from the british company joined up with ashok and had went on to produce chassis based on the comet but bore little resemblance to it by the seventies but the company kept the leyland name to this day and round badge associated with the old company , both are big producers of now modern trucks and fire appliance chassis
