Has anyone got an idea as to when a Scotland wide fire brigade will be coming into effect?

Added by Andrew Middleton on 07 April 2012.
Its due to be April 2013 the single fire service come to effect. The same for the single scottish police force also.

Do we know anything about the organisation or command structure yet? Perhaps they will base it on the NFS system.

I understand that the new headquarters is to be in Perth and there's talk of a chief/firemaster/politician coming from outside the fire service. I think they call it progress!

What I heard from a fellow FBS member. Three cheif fire officers are retiring, ours Tayside which is definent Lothian@Borders and Highlands@Islands. The criteria set buy the Scottish Government is quite high and no-one up here can match it? so it could be going to someone from down south?

Added by Grant Melville on 09 April 2012.
Many thanks Barry. Thinking about it logically, the Scottish Ambulance Service has been in exsistance for many years so why not the Fire and Police services.

Added by Andrew Middleton on 09 April 2012.
The interim headquarters will be at Perth fire station in Tayside. With regards to command sturcture I dont think they know themselves. I dont know what will happen to all the control room either. Some intresting times ahead!!

Did I read something about H&I and training that brought this amalgamation about?

Added by Andrew Middleton on 10 April 2012.
Let us hope they don't go down the Chief Executive road. It really does need someone who knows the job inside out. The wrong person could result in mass resignations from the volunteer if not the retain service.

I hear there is word of a joint Police and Fire Brigade HQ to be built in Perth...

Added by Andy on 12 April 2012.
Maybe Andy? But Perth fire station has been totally refurbished and modernised and in the last 2-3 years new training facilites built, hot house, silo, motoerway section.

Added by Grant Melville on 13 April 2012.
But the operational fire station may not be the new Scottish Fire HQ. After the initial set up they are likely to want / need / demand a seperate building.

Is L&B now applying battenburgs to its appliances? I saw a 09 plate Scania at Cameron Toll, Edinburgh today with them.

It was on blues and twos but had no main ladder? Driver training?

Added by Scott Hume on 26 April 2012.
L&B only have 2 appliances with battenburg on them, - they are the two ex Multistar ARP`s that have had their booms removed and are now used for driver training only.

Added by D. Cruickshank on 26 April 2012.
That would explain it. Didn't look like a normal wrl as it didn't have the brigade name in yellow as per the photo above.

Cheers

Sorry, but there is a very square WrL with battenburg markings running about in Broxburn & has L&B on the sides

Added by Colin Foster on 27 April 2012.
ah, further to my previous comment, I'm not sure the WrL I'm seeing is a converted ARP, but they could be. However, the one that passed me on the blues looked like it had a full ladder fit.

picture 18570 taken by myself shows one of the L&B Multistars - taken before the booms were removed. I`m unaware of any new appliances ordered by L&B having battenburg on them apart from the 2 ex Multistars.

Added by D. Cruickshank on 27 April 2012.
That's it! or should I say that's them. Thanks for clearing this up. I see these frequently and often on the blues.
At least those ARP's ended up with some use.

Added by Colin Foster on 28 April 2012.
Yes, picture 18570 does look a bit like the appliance I saw at Cameron Toll, had red at the top of the body, not yellow.
