This 1986 FF173 was one of seven similar appliances that were built for the NZ Fire Service by Austral - a short lived company that came from the origins of Wormald. It served the Amberley volunteer fire brigade - it is shown in the Christchurch suburb of New Brighton providing assistance after the February earthquake. It is currently in the process of being transferred to the Scargill rural fire party.

David, would that be Austral in Australia, thanks?

No. Austral set up a short lived division in NZ - as I understand it Austral NZ came from the remains of Wormald. When Austral folded elements of this went on to become Lowes Industries who lasted slightly longer as appliance builders. Austral NZ were responsible for 4 Mitsubishi pumps, 1 Dennis RT, 7 FF173 Hino pumps, all 19 Hino FH222 pumps, the Hino HEM & all 20 International 1850D pumps. I am not sure if the Wellington Airport Tridents & the two MAN RIV tenders were built by Austral NZ or in Australia.
