Believed to be the 'first pump' to the big fatal Ballantynes building fire in ChCh. Pumped also at Balmoral Forest fire for 48hours nonstop. Has a manual 'crashbox' and heavy flywheel.

Hmmm, not too sure re Ballantynes. Number 11 Ford V8 was reputed to be first arrival. In any event served the brigade well and was still on duty at an official funeral this week.

David, checking the Dennis records I cannot see this one.....I do see a similar vehicle 30.10 1937 chassis no 7888 (wpo 8840) with a Stevens built body but bearing the rego DV 3434. Is this the above machine, is it possible that it could have been re-registered?

Added by Barrie Green on 09 February 2013.
It is the same vehicle Barrie. It has been re-registered from DV 3434

Thanks David.....thought it was a bit of a coincidence. ...I will enter it on our preserved register for The Dennis Society

The Dennis records don't give the registration number, so this confirms it for me Barrie you have my records

A photograph of this preserved appliance appears in a book "Chariots for Fire" which clearly shows the registration number as DV 3434. It is just possible Wayne that that is where the information came from and not from your records!

I haven't seen the Chariots for Fire Book Dusty but I do have a photograph of this machine with the 3232 reg

Added by Barrie Green on 13 February 2013.
I've got a copy of Chariots for Fire Book that I had for a long time. The rego for this appliance in the book was DV3434 and it served with different Fire Brigades around Christchurch and joined Lyttelton Volunteer Fire Brigade from 1967 to 1971.
