Fire Engines Photos

Amazing warning-light package, typical of DC suburbs with heavy traffic and drivers who keep their windows closed and airco running. Two Mars lights, Roto Ray, light bar. You definitely know it's coming at you...

Hey Michael, don't forget the Fed Q!! Lou, this is one well-maintained rig and a credit to the guys who crew it!!

Pavel, I didn't forget the Fed Q, but that's because it's pretty standard on US apparatus. Most fire trucks I've seen recently have Fed Q sirens AND electronic ones AND air horns. (And sometimes they are all in use simultaneously.) Oh, this Maryland truck hasn't got a bell...

Here in Portland where the traffic isn't too bad, they don't have huge light packages -- see picture 11167 for one of our tillers, which has typical "decoration".

They use the Fed Q's and air horns intermittently -- I live in the center of the city and have been impressed by their consideration in blasting away only where necessary, not constantly. The trucks here generally have bells, but they are rarely used -- I think they're mostly for nostalgia purposes. The police and (privatized) medic units stick to electronic sirens.
