Fire Engines Photos

When I was a young child in the very early 60's my grandfather would take me into the LH station and I'd be allowed under supervision to stand on the checker plate areas of the smaller engines. There was a lovely old chap that would clean and maintain them in between tests and drills. I seem to remember there were 2 with a large Bedford being the major player with large round wooden wheels either side at the rear of the ladder mounted on the engine/appliance. In those days a siren would be played to the whole town to alert the fire crews who would rush to the station from various area's around. Funny not all that long ago, or perhaps it is!!!!
