1942 Dennis Merryweather 100' TL GLW424
Having aquired last year GXA95 which is a similar Dennis Merryweather TL, one kind person thought I would like another! So a day ago, GLW424 arrived. It has had a rather hard life after coming out of service. Ian Moore kindly provided the following details. 'New to the NFS in 1942, it was originally allocated to Bristol. In 1945, said NFS transfered it to Yeovil, but in 1948 (on the return of power to local authorities) it went back to Bristol, where it remained unril 1968'.
Can anyone supply any further pictures of this machine whilst in service?
The kind donor of this machine also added the following note; 'I purchased TL GLW 424 in a rather sorry state and then, trying to be a good friend, I loaned the Portsmouth Museum service the top half of the Meadows engine for their own Dennis TL. Sadly, despite several requests, I never got the head back as the curator said he knew nothing about the situation and there was nothing in writing.' Can anyone help in this respect?

Wayne, the chassis plate has been removed so I am afraid that I cannot tell you the chassis number. The Dennis records just show a despatch to Merryweather and not to the final Brigade. Having had chance to look at GLW a little closer this weekend I find that the sump is also missing so I would like to add this to my 'want list' along with a cylinder head.

Wayne, I haven't looked for the Merryweather plate yet. If you (or anyone) would like to see some pictures of GLW424 just drop me an email.

Barry, if you are still confused about the chassis number, it should be stamped on the near side chassis rail, near the front. Probably under coats of paint by now but some stripper should uncover it.
