Is the Dennis at the second left broke down as it is facing backwards?

The front door may be out of use. It's a common thing with UK brigades to turn appliances around if doors are broken. You're teasing us again Royce. What wonderful photos and thank you for sharing them with us. As a footnote, when did Cromwell Road open?

Royce - there appears to be a TL in the bay in front of the Personnel Carrier its maybe my eyes but it looks more like a Merryweather ladder set than a Metz - I thought the Merryweather wasn't purchased until 1968 when EJV 955 (the Metz) returned to Karlsrhue for maintenance ?

Andrew - Cromwell Road station opened in December 1974. So, although constructed for the Grimsby Borough Brigade, it really only became operational under Humberside. Initially it only ran a single pump, owing to a shortage of crews, but soon after was bolstered to run a WrTL and a WrT as now.

Rick - Quite right, it is a Merryweather, but it is GXA92, a Dennis machine which was acquired as a reserve TL from City of Birmingham in 1956 and then replaced by GXA 95 from West Riding of Yorkshire (also Dennis/Merryweather, and now in preservation) in 1968.

Thanks Royce - I thought my eyes were right and it was a Merryweather ladder set - it also explains the difference in date - it explains another point as well though, - as you say GXA 95 was the later TL and is now preserved by Barry Hutchinson but GXA 92 survived locally until about 10 years ago in a barn near Lincoln (its since disappeared) the owner said it was ex Birmingham then Grimsby - I was unsure of this as I knew GXA 92 was THE Grimsby appliance - turns out we were both right !!!

In Brunei they always parked the broke down fire appliance facing backwards to indicate it is out of order for a while.
