Isuzu Urban Tanker Parkerville Western Australia
2006 Isuzu FTS 750 Reg No 085MDG Urban Tanker 3.4U of the Parkerville Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade, Western Australia.
Parkerville is typical of the Australian alternative life-style suburbs located in the tinder-box dry bush of the Darling Escarpment overlooking the metropolitan area of Perth. The Brigade has some 35+ active members divided in four teams, which is quite a considerable size compared to other local brigades. This fire engine is absolutely enormous, the photo does not do it justice. Standing alongside I could not see into the cab area! It is classified Urban Tanker 3.4U which identifies it as having 3000 lts of water, 4 wheel drive (4WD) and equipped to fight urban structure fires. Normal turnout is with a crew of six who are alerted by personal pager. The main purpose of the vehicle is to fight bush and structural fires. It does not perform road crash rescue or hazmat incidents. That function is carried out by the career and volunteer fire brigades(red fire engines). This incredible fire truck (Australians in the bush will NEVER refer to their vehicle as an appliance or fire engine) has the latest of equipment including breathing apparatus (4xsets + add cylinders), a locker of waterway equipment that would surpass most, seperate rolled hose and flake delivery lockers, etc, etc. Immediately behind the cab in an enclosed deck to operate a monitor and 2 x hand lines. The pump control panel is visible left rear. I have a drivers side photo to post in which I will include the vehicle spec's.

This appliance DOES carry breathing apparatus, and does also attend structural fires...And it also has 2 ladders on the back, and they are sometimes used.
Although it is a VBFB, its whats called a 'Duel Registered' or 'Enhanced' brigade, so it does attend structural fires, vehicle fires and bush fires, but as you said, it does not carry rescue gear.

Ah it's one of those stations, considering it's geographical location that is fair enough, even though Structural is not really a role of VBFB's. However, information and certain roles are often blurred which is of coarse exemplified by this 3.4 appliance carrying BA. Some brigades take the ladders off their Urbans as they have no use for them and FESA will not fit out their appliances with BA due to their job description.

see this is why I like the South Aus system, volunteer brigades are SA Country Fire Service (SACFS) and career brigades are SA Metro Fire Service (SAMFS) they both do the same job, it just the environment is different. SACFS has RCR and hazmat and everything that SAMFS has, only diff apart from the appliances the fact that MFS is paid is that MFS structure and hazmat incidents can be larger and more often than CFS incidents. and of course MFS don't go to large bushfire. To your comment "Australians in the bush will NEVER refer to their vehicle as an appliance or fire engine", that's crap 3 of my 4 years in the CFS have been in bush brigades and have always refereed to our vehicles as appliances, its standard procedure, if your caught referring to an appliance as anything else then an appliance on the radio, you will be pulled off it and not allowed back on one

Yeh we tend to call our trucks appliances or trucks.....its engine that we don't tend to call it since that's an American name for a non-ladder appliance.
DJ Firefighter in WA we have 3 forms of Fire Brigade that is public service. Volunteer Fire and Rescue and Fire and Rescue being two. They are the same as the SACFS and the SAMFS. Its the same set up based on role etc, however some trucks differ just to suit the geographical location.
However, we also have a third brigade the Bush Fire Brigades that fight mainly bush fires. Thus I think this is what Bush FF and VBFB member are getting at. I think they think that if the station is going to respond to structure etc they should really be a VFRS brigade or a Volunteer Fire Service VFS.
I agree with them, bush fire brigades should really be separated into the bush and car fire roles and VFRS and FRS should be left like the SA system where they do the same job just some get paid and are in a different locality

The 3.4s are great assets to our VBFB brigades and are beautiful trucks. They along with the other trucks in the VBFBs fight only Car Fires and Bush Fires.
