yes it is huge, but the cab at the rear has a second driver so the rear axle can steer accordingly and you will be amazed how tight it can go around small corners.

FDNY operates a small number of tiller aerials, simply because they are so manuverable compared to conventional 100 foot (30 meter) rear mount aerials. They are assigned to areas of the city with especially narrow streets and tight turns, such as the Chinatown neighborhood in lower Manhattan.
Other cities, like Chicago, which do not have any similarly challenging areas, tend to operate only rigid chassis aerials, tower ladders and platforms.
It seems the solution in many older European cities is to operate 18 meter ladders on MB Vario and similar compact chassis. These are probably quite adequate, given the limited height of most buildings in older areas of such cities. A handy alternative in some German cities is to operate 24 meter or 27 meter ladders on special chassis with four wheel steering.
