Land Rover /Branbridge L4P for Mander centre
taken 1975 this appliance was designed as a low profile light pump - note the cab roof is flattened, the ladder below roof line, and the beacon on the bodywork not roof. It was based at Wolverhampton where they had recently opened the Mander shopping centre, which had restricted access. Similar small pumps for shopping centres appeared in other cities, like Newcastle, though they did not last long. Dennis PHP in background.

The Newcastle light pumps were Standard (Leyland) Atlas conversions. Cheshire had a similar Land Rover to this one for the shopping precinct at Runcorn

To my knowledge wolverhampton Fire and Ambulance brigade purchased 2 of these Landrovers they had sequental number plates FUK 998L and FUK 999L the second appliance was based at Bilston Fire Station to provide cover for the indoor market there. Both were re-liveried when the brigade became part of the West Midlands and eventually sold off

I was in Wolverhampton fire and ambulance service in 1969, in May 1969 was watch station officer at Merridale st wton where this photo was taken. The L/rover was actually used on the large fire at the Mander centre 1970.

The UK suffix on the number plates meant at the time that they were registered in Wolverhampton

the Land Rover was fleet 240, eventually finding its way to Turweston Airfield, Brackley, Northamptonshire.

I have the two Branbridges as VJW 999G and OUK 999L. I find it hard to believe FUK was issued. Does anyone have a photo showing this mark?
Ed: my reference is K Cox above in this stream. I have seen OUK elsewhere so I am unsure now! Might the mark have been changed?

DVLA and predecessors always very careful about 'naughty' registrations so I very much doubt FUK was ever issued .
