If you look carefully you will see there are trade plates in the windscreen which suggests WSFRS were trying it in the station to see if it fits - thats one better than a certain brigade in my locality who due to the transport officers inadequacies generally had to realocate more than one appliance due to it not fitting in the original station it was ordered for ! You wait until they reallocate the CARP !

I bet that this Pump has responded, and, arrived at the fire-scene, still "wearing" its fire-station, on more than one occasion......never ever seen an Emergency Services bay, so cramped around its vehicle.

Backing the rig into quarters must be a real joy, with no mirrors available(swung out of way) ... ?crew posted on either side to guide the driver ? clearances measured in fractions of an inch ?

Great photo - would make a great poster for evryone's fire-hall, captioned "You think we have
problems...."

Yes it is a tight fit, but the station won't be made bigger as the station is not owned by WSFRS, its owned by the people of keymer and the Fire Service has no say in the matter about the size of the station. Please correct me if wrong

I understand from a little research I done some years ago on Keymer Fire Station,the ground on which it stands was privately owned and was donated to the village with the sole purpose of the building of a fire station for the village by the owner with the understanding that nothing else could be built on this ground.
Many years ago,the County Council who run the West Sussex Fire Brigade(WSF&RS)wanted to build a new fire station in Keymer,the village and Parish Council were against the idea,and also major changes in the present station will not/cannot be made.What Robert's saying is I understand correct,Neil(photo)the Station Officer(whoops-Station Manager)hopefully at some time will fill us in with a little more on the history of the Keymer Fire Brigade,and its station.

Peter I am interested to know more regarding the land and building ownership, yes the village did raise the money by subscription to build the station.

The land was donated by the Campion family and one of the Cragg family built the station, the Cragg's have had members of their family in the retained service at Keymer for many years.

Sadley Keymer was closed on the 1st April 2011 due to budget cuts, Bossom and Findon also closed at the same time.

WSFRS are now looking to merge with East Sussex, you have to ask was the closures to balance the number of stations and not save money!

Hello Neil, sorry, I can't add much more info then I've already mentioned on your station.I was actually hoping you could fill in abit more.
Have you seen the model I made in 1.76 scale of Keymer Fire Station as a lasting memory?.It can be viewed on the Transport Models site, pictures 2302 and 2303.Sorry mate, its not for sale not like the real one.Pete.

talking of tight fits we had a couple on Merseyside like this, One still in operation is Southport the doors are so narrow the wing mirrors have to be pulled in and there is only inches each side of the appliance. The other station was the old station on Derby Lane old swan. It was built for horse drawn appliances. what also caused problems was you had to back down a narrow passage off the main road then to make matters worse the station was set at an angle at the last minute the wing mirrors had to be pulled in. A turn out from this station was just as bad as the appliance was driven towards a brick wall then as the rear end left the appliance room the diver could put on a hard right just missing the wall, frightening when riding as oic as I did on a number of times.
