FDNY SQUAD 18
Squad 18 had only been back on station for about 5 minutes when they were called out to a lorry on fire. Its a fairly tight fit for the appliance, also on station is a hazmat vehicle which is "jumped crewed" with the squad and is parked behind this vehicle when in the station. Photo taken on 29/09/09.

Squad 18 (ex-Engine Co18) runs from this 1892 firehouse at 132 West 10th Street in Manhattan. The apparatus is a 2001 Seagrave JB 1000/500 (RPr) Rescue Pumper (reg SPO1005).The other apparatus at these quarters is a 2002 GMC Workhorse Union City Body Haz-Mat (step van) Tender which was one of 3 purchased in 2002, the others going to Squad 252 and Rescue Co5.

Not at all unusual to see apparatus just barely fitting in to a FDNY firehouse. Many are very old and were never intended to house modern trucks - indeed quite a few are more than a hundred years old like this example, and the oldest dates from the 1860s!
Squad companies are part of the Special Operations Command and are trained for both rescue and hazmat operations. The duty watch is six crew (Engine companies are five) and they normally ride the Engine. But when they respond to a hazmat incident two ride the Hazmat Tender. It sits where the horses used to be stabled in the original station configuration...
