1975 Thornycroft Nubian Major Crash Tender. In July,2009 I posted a picture from the Odiham Fire Show 2008 showing a Thornycroft(KYD 945D)CrT from Farnborough. At the show this year-2009,the other Thornycroft reg-GPM 506N in preservation today was also at the show.
This is a 1975 Thornycroft Nubian Major Airfield Crash/Fire Tender which entered service with the Royal Aircraft Establishment at Farnborough in 1975,and was bodied by Carmichael and Sons.
The appliance served all its working life at Farnborough, and was withdrawn from service by T.A.G.Engineering in late 2003 and was then sold for a token price of £100.00(yes that right-one hundred pounds)to the current owner, the National Historic Vehicle Society who collected it two days later after paperwork was completed.
The appliance displayed at the show but it was clearly stated that it is undergoing major restoration, but is still a fully operational appliance-but only just for water.
I'd like to thank the lads from N.V.H.S.for helping with this photo shoot, and all of the information provided-See you next year lads.Pete.
