Fire Engines Photos

This Volvo was on the run as 1st pump when I was stationed at Tadcaster fire station along with its sister N820 WPY which was the retained pump. Ive hammered it many a time along the A1. One of them is still on the run as retained pump.

All these things are fit for, not upto the job, but odd thing is the older ones were more reliable than the newer ones ......

6 litre engine sounds impressive but given the litreage, the torque ( pulling power ) will not be that great, bigger engine ( in terms of litres ) means more torque, less revs and far less stress on the engine .

I know the Scania is not liked but has a 9 litre engine and the Dennis had an 8.3 and some brigades go for the Volvo FM 9 powered by a 9 litre engine, the FL6 ok in city / town on a A road or hill, get out n push !

Or John, better still, re-open a Bedford TK line and a good HCB Angus custom body, and look after it. That should be good for 25 years, if only eh?

Hi John and John, this was great pump to drive it handled well and was fairly quick. I think N820 WPY is at Huntington a retained station near York.I think the Bedford TK's with the HCB Angus bodies were the most reliable pumps North Yorkshire ran, no ware near the likes of a Dennis but for a County brigade the were great.
