Dennis F12 Ex Somerset Fire Brigade NYA352
This picture was taken by Bristol Bob and is published with his permission. The picture shows a 1952 Dennis F12 index NYA352 which was originally issued from new to Portishead Fire Station when it was part of Somerset Fire Brigade. The appliance remained at Portishead for all its life with Somerset Fire brigade and was absorbed along with the Portishead Station into the newly formed County of Avon Fire Brigade in 1974. The above picture shows the appliance at an incident in Bristol when I think i'm correct in saying that the appliance was on the run at Speedwell (I'm sure Bristol Bob will correct me if I'm wrong). County of Avon Fire brigade is now written on the drivers door with the station name plate inbetween the front and rear doors. When it was announced that the County of Avon was being formed and Somerset Fire brigade were informed that they would be losing a number of stations to the control of County of Avon Fire Brigade lets just say over the coming months a number appliance moves took place and funnily enough the majority of the older Fire Engines that Somerset had on the run ended up in Stations that were being passed over to Avon. Although be fair they did give Avon a few of the newer Bedford Tk's!!
