hi Ian, do you known how many TLs Teesside had? thanks Ian Mc

Added by Ian Mac on 06 March 2009.
That one at Middlesbrough, a similar one at Redcar and a Dennis Magirus at Stockton.
I was at the head of this one when it crashed through the doors of the top landing of the drill tower at Middlesbrough station.....the operator was looking down talking to someone instead of watching the head of the ladder. Fortunatly I saw what was about to happen and dropped down on my safety belt and wasnt hurt. Had to change my trousers though !!!!!

In 1968, Teesside's collection of TL's was as follows, OXG950 at Middlesbrough Stockton (South view Norton) had 250AUP a 1958 Dennis F27/Metz 100ft formerly with Durham County. This was replaced in 1976 by DDC1 a Dennis Delta F125 HP.
In 1973 a Dennis Delta F123/Simon SS85 OHN234L replaced OXG950 at Middlesbrough. OXG in turn moved to Redcar, and was replaced there c1980 by JDC296W a Dennis Delta which recieved OXG's ladders.

Lol! not to worry, an easy enough mistake to make. I did hear though, that 250AUP survives in Kent. Can anyone provide further details?

Forgot to mention, that Stockton on Tees's local History site 'Picture Stockton' has a little series of pictures of 250AUP on an exercise at the original Stockton fire station. I found them once, but it's a huge site, which will take some serious searching.

Look carefully at the pump behind this TL. It is Middlesborough's custom-built low-clearance Dennis F series with an (originally) open cab with a half cab for the driver and a three-man bench behind. Both were accessed by right side doors, so the standard 35 foot ladder could be accommodated on the left side, inside the bodywork. The fibreglass bubble top was added after some grumbling by the Union, and was originally black. It had a rear mounted No 3 900 GPM pump and dated from the early 1950s.

Yes, and the low height Dennis is safe (for now) at the Shildon Lorry Museum, which is not far from Locomotion (the Railway Museum).

I remember the TL being used as a water tower at the Hotel York Fire in Redcar and had to climb to use the monitor on the roof when it opened like a couple of large doors and I was about the rising heat. Fireman Ron Goody the operator rotated the ladder away from the fire, while another fireman played a hose on me to cool me down.

The registration DDC1 was originally allocated to a Dennis Pumping appliance which was based at the then River Station, now known as Marine, next to the Transporter Bridge.

In reply to Ian Mc above, I do not remember this TL having a white front when it was at Redcar before being replaced by JDC296W which did.
