This one shows the ex-Middlesbrough Leyland Comet/Windovers P. that passed into Teesside for a short time. Alongside it is 652 AAO, a mobile workshop that was purchased by the then newly formed Teesside from Cumberland FB.

The Comet was the first pump I ever drove at Teesside

Nice picture again Chris thanks. Barrie, my dad said The Teeside machines had the old American sirens on some of their stuff, is that the funny thing sitting on top of the cab?

Added by John Stott on 05 March 2009.
Yes John thats a Francis Rolling siren, then had to be 'wailed' manually by operating the switch on and off.

John,
Not so much of "the funny thing" - those sirens were great !

Lol Ian, a bit too far for me! Now a nice Winkworth gong and Francis searchlight to polish....

To John Stott. I didn't take this picture mate. Ian Moore did. I was a babe in arms when this was taken lol!

Sorry Mr Hall, and Ian, I spend so much time on a tractor that the grey stuff is rotting! At least when I was retained I got to meet other people.....

I only wish I could go back in time and again be the age that I was when I photographed it !!

Ian,
W here do you find these gems!, absolutely fantastic. Again i had the pleasure of driving the only one the brigade had, a WRT with bodywork by Vincents of Reading, plenty of power good driving position and what about the tight turning circle.
Barrie-the Francis siren was great, everyone knew what was
coming, very individual in our area.
I have seen the b/w photo i only wish i could frame it!!
Keep these type of shots coming please Ian.Regards.

I can add my peneth to that as well Gentlemen! If I'd started twenty years earlier, and on the same scale as my interest in Cleveland Transit Buses, my collection of North East Fire Brigade stuff would then have been very substantial indeed!
Re the sirens, I liked Teesside's rolling sirens but those in use today, with those wonderful 'Get out of the way' Air Horns, are much much better lol!

Weird and wonderful oddities do crop up from time to time in my collection. I began b&w photography in 1963, going to slides in 1968. In all honesty, I don't seem to do much photography now, but things are really much more standardised than they were back then, anyway.

Excellent photo as usual Ian. Now for the $64,000 question. I've seen your photos on Delta 64 of Chester, did you ever get the chance to get into Flintshire?
