What year are these fire appliances?

Is the large white unit encompassing the illuminated 'Fire' sign, some form of extendable lighting? It looks a little cumbersome, yet so reflective of the period love it! Was it also mounted to all of the machines.

This is fantastic picture and thankyou for adding.
Patrick, the appliances will be 1979 /80 depending on when registered, John yes it was a Stem light, most of the machines had these fitted but mainly at the rear of the appliance.

One again thank you for this, makes me feel old looking at these now !
