Dennis F38 Pump Essex County Fire Brigade at show
This photograph was taken by me. Further to picture 14939. Here is TOO 928E in the latter years that I owned this appliance (I believe around 1996). It is seen here at the Loseley Park Classic Car and Country Show (near Guildford, Surrey) in aid of the Queen Elizabeth Foundation For Disabled People.
This rear shot shows how this machine has now been returned to it’s original configuration as a Pump Escape due to the skill of my father (and a little help from me) by uniting it with an ex Hertfordshire 50ft metal Merryweather Wheeled Escape, trunnion and gantry set. This was one of the last wheeled escapes ladders to have been in use in mainland Britain (I believe in to the 1990’s) and was latterly carried by a Dennis SS as per picture 4804.
What may be just visible coming from beneath the chassis rails, are the two red pipes that terminate at an outlet (just beneath the letter E of the registration plate), that was utilised to drop the capacity of the water tank down to 150 gallons from 300 to compensate for the extra weight of the wheeled escape ladder. The machine could carry the full compliment of water when running as a pump.
Originally this machine would have carried a 50ft wooden Bayley Escape.
