Fire Engines Photos

Ian, thanks on finding a shot of this Leyland pump escape which appeared back
in that 1960's Benny Hill sketch.Richard Yokley(Tucson Arizona)E.Mailed me
for information, etc.I had very little info on this one and certainly have
not got a picture.It went into presevation, but I don't know today if this
lovely old Leyland PE is still around.Thanks very much again Ian, Pete.

The last time i knew, AMO was owned by Keith Nickols who lived in Thorpe Green, Surrey.There was a possible interest by someone in Sussex!
This vehicle is of interest to me as it was used as a reserve to cover Stn 1 Caversham Rd Readings 1951 Dennis P E (where this photo was taken)where I had the "pleasure" of riding her, happy days!

Thanks very much Alan for the information on the 1937 Leyland PE(AMO 654)
and some of its history, its nice to know she may still be in preservation.
Ian, thanks again for tracking down this one, its a classic B/W photograph

I spent many a day at the back of Caversham Road when i was a kid.

my farther restored this appliance in the late 70s it was sold in the lat 80s and the las i know of the appliance it was in the essex area about 8 years ago and was missing the escape and marked up with a local village name any one with any information on this appliance please let me know

no he restored it back to the original town of wokingham in berks later B&R then RBFB

AMO was purchased in 1937 by the Borough of Wokingham, following NFS service it was absorbed into Berks&Reading F.B. at Stn 10 Wokingham.
It went out of service about 1965 when stationed at Stn 21 Wallingford ( then in Berkshire) when a conrod went through the side of the engine.
I spoke to Keith Nicholas Jnr at Odiham this year , we are both very interested as to its whereabouts.

I also spoke to Keith at Odiham this year regarding this appliance - I last saw it in Essex about 8 years ago - the diesel engine now fitted in it would be explained by the engine failure when still in service - it was near Mountnessing in Essex but the land it was on was being compulsory purchased for the M25 extension so it may well have gone - interestingly in the same shed was an ex Oxfordshire Leyland Cub

Rick, I did not realize it until now, well I just did not check on it, but the other appliance in the shed with the AMO (the 1933 Leyland FK1, UD 5356, chassis number 1112) was the appliance that appeared in December 23, 1970, the 1st version of the Benny Hill classic, 'A Tribute to the Lower Tidmarsh Fire Brigade'. I find it interesting that both of these Benny Hill utilized appliances were actually housed together. The AMO appeared in the same titled sketch February 11, 1981.
A shame that both have come up missing
