Fire Engines Photos

Hi, I don't know who the owner is but this appliance served with the City of Liverpool Fire Brigade until 1967 and was then preserved I have no idea where it is now, its unusual in having a Liverpool registration most of these appliances were home office registered.

By my count there were 16 of the Leyland TLM2A/Merryweather TLs in these contracts that had local registrations, namely: BG 6246 (Birkenhead), DKW 755 (Bradford), GHW 415 (Bristol), EVC 919 (Coventry), TJ 7700 (Dundee), DSF 140 (Edinburgh), DGE 80 (Glasgow), GKH 156 (Hull), JNW 954 (Leeds), GKA 983 (Liverpool), GNC 800 (Manchester), XG 7767 (Middlesbrough), JBB 853 (Newcastle), XS 5454 (Paisley), BRJ 333 (Salford), GWJ 649 (Sheffield)

to the last of my knowledge GHW 415 was preserved and kept on a fire station in Bristol - Speedwell comes to mind

Neville asks about GHW415, and I dug out a photo I took of it several years ago but had no real knowledge about it, however, another Bob has added information which appears to have correct information about it, when delivered, and where, and its whereabouts. Unfortunately my picture did not appear on the main page of this site but was put directly into archives. Neville can see this in photo #13571.

Ghw 415 as far as i am aware lives now in Westbury Wilts its a Leylnd Merryweather 100ft TL yes?
if so a friend owns it Keith Miller it was at a company in Eynsham freeland engineering had it and restored it some 20 odd years ago complete with Bristol liveries

Gka983 was supplied to liverpool fire service in 1940(sept) it had been order with a government grant in 1939.it was stationed at essex street but was badly damaged in the blitz and returned to leyland motors for repair.returning to liverpool (now nfs).1948 it returned to essex st and then to belvidere road and was replaced by the first 65ft.snorkel.the tl then moved to the training school in south liverpool and it was here that I trained on it.

I remember the Middlesborough unit had front doors, and there were I believe a few others in this series which were the same. I wonder if any of these presumably even more rare ladders still exist?
