Japanese fire services use only a very small number of imported trucks. These include a few IVECO-Magirus aerial ladders - and a much larger number of Unimogs.

The reason for buying Mogs is that they have off-road capabilities far beyond any other civilian vehicle, and in Japan they are used not only as brush trucks but as all-terrain relay pumpers and LDH hose layers. These are primarily intended for use in post earthquake conditions, when water mains are damaged and roads are impassable, but may of course also be used under less challenging circumstances. Examples are illustrated on this site.
