Pete:
A neat rig - it must have stood out amongst its fellow Engines.
With the Snorkel's Overhang - just add some Ground Ladders and a second rear-axle - then you could slide this rig into any North American Fire-Hall, without anyone noticing the difference.
BTW do you know how it was, for operating in the narrow streets and tight corners, of your older communities. Although, I suppose that there were no taller structures in these places; hence an Aerial/Platform would not be required.
I imagine the Driver and/or the Officer would have had pre-planning maps, showing where they definitely could not take the rig.
You see, I have been following the [heated] discussions on the CARP's ("Quints" to us) on this 'Site and the fact that their size may prohibit them from ancient town-centres.....
As always, appreciate your knowledge and historical information...

I wonder if these later single cab snorkels were less expensive than the earlier ones with full crew cabs? As the front offered accommodation for three crew, there was certainly no need for the extra seats, and indeed by the time this was built many snorkels were on regular lorry chassis with standard two door cabs.

I remember seeing this attending the Grand Hotel in Brighton in 1984 on a TV programme about 10 years after. This machine was replaced by a Volvo FL10 Bronto in 1998 and a decade later Hove's Bronto found its way to Preston Circus to take the place of the Mercedes SK Metz Turntable Ladder that was stationed there from new in 1993 (I don't know anything regarding that vehicle's eventual whereabouts) when 2 twin Bronto ALPs arrived at Eastbourne & Hastings in 1999 & 2004 respectively when the MAN based TLs gave way to them.

Michael, I seem to recall the booms on the HP at the Grand Hotel bombing being yellow.

Yelp Bullhorn - there was an ERF HP with yellow booms at the Grand Hotel bombing - that would have been the West Sussex FB HP from Worthing. I suspect there may have been a need for several aerial appliances at the Grand Hotel bombing, so I would have thought that both Hove and Worthing would have sent their respective ERFs.
